ASE3300 Virtualization Extension Platform

AFORE’s ASE3300 is a modular, fault tolerant platform that enables enterprises and service providers to interconnect server and storage locations over wide area networks. Demand for secure and efficient wide area networking is growing at an unprecedented rate as information technology professionals struggle to achieve key objectives such as infrastructure consolidation, business process optimization, and regulatory compliance.

The ASE3300 provides high performance, secure and optimized connectivity between key Enterprise locations and data centers. Wide area networks need to traverse significant distances over public IP, Ethernet, MPLS or leased line networks in environments where bandwidth efficiency, application performance and security are key concerns. To meet these requirements the ASE platform employs advanced Ethernet and IP optimization capabilities such as wire-speed data compression, packet based forward error correction and AES-256 encryption for IP/Ethernet and Fibre Channel based applications.

Many data center applications and protocols were not designed with long distance communications in mind. The ASE provides powerful distance extension and flow control enhancements to enable virtual storage and virtual machine migration (such as provided by VMotion and Xen Live Migration) to occur across the WAN, at distances that can span thousands of kilometers.

ASE’s Virtual Wire technology provides low latency, layer 2 transparency enabling virtual machines to traverse wide area networks while continuing to use jumbo frames to achieve the transfer. ASE transparently adapts over-size frames used in the data center (jumbo frames, FC, FCoE) to the maximum size available across the WAN using a unique layer 2 packet re-sizing capability that operates at wire speed with no additional latency. In fact all ASE functions operate at wire speed on all ports simultaneously due to an optimized hardware datapath architecture which preserves latency measured in microseconds even with all functions operating simultaneously.

The ASE may be configured with redundant power, and redundant networking modules with automatic switchover in the event of a rare hardware failure. Separation of control plane and data plane processing ensures fully hitless field upgrades which may be administered locally or remotely over secure in-band communications.

AFORE System Manager

AFORE System Manager (ASM) is an integrated network management system which provides consolidate network-wide view to manage wide-scale ASE3300 deployments. The ASM provides single screen management which includes a consolidated alarm viewing and filtering tool. Operators can easily create profiles to view specific sub networks of ASE3300 appliances, with user friendly tear-away tabs for simply multi-device comparisons. The combined capabilities of the ASE3300 and ASM provide a powerful toolkit for network administrators. All aspects of the ASM were designed with the end user in mind, to enable ease of use. The ASM is supported on Windows and Solaris operating systems.
