Virtual Fiber and Virtual Wire

ASE Virtual Fiber technology transforms existing wide area network services, providing cost effective alternatives to dark fiber while preserving the same key attributes: protocol and packet size transparency, support for high bandwidth, secure, and reliable communications of multiple protocols. Virtual Fibers provide wide area network protection, IP/MPLS and Ethernet encapsulations, packet loss recovery (EtherCORRECT) and AES 256 encryption (CryptoWIRE) to ensure secure and efficient delivery of multiple Virtual Wires across the network.

Virtual Wires support Ethernet or Fibre Channel payloads (which may be soft configured) providing end-to-end Layer 2 tunnels for virtual machine migration, server connectivity and interconnection of storage networks (SAN-XTEND). Dynamic adaptation of packet sizes (JumboSLICE) provides MTU transparency enabling Jumbo frame, FC and FCoE applications to traverse packet size restricted routers and wide area switches, while high bandwidth data compression (EtherPACK) ensures maximum utilization of wide area resources.

ASE 3300 Virtual Fiber

ASE is purpose built to enable long distance virtualization extension; it has extremely low latency, and does not introduce additional network hops. It is transparent to MAC addresses and VLANs connected to its interfaces, providing a close approximation to a physical leased line or wavelength on a DWDM system. As the terminology implies, ASE truly provides similar characteristics to dark fiber, which helps to seamlessly enable live virtual machine, storage, and application mobility as if within a single data center environment.

These unique technologies create a new class of service delivery platform enabling secure optimized networking of servers and storage devices over extended distances.
